December 6, 2012: The total number of children living in poverty in the Sacramento region has increased by 30,00, or 40%, since 2000, according to census figures reported today in the Sacramento Bee by Phillip Reese. (Poverty level for a family of four is "roughly $23,500.") The 113,000 children who fall into this category represent 22% of all children living in the area. The Bee article includes an interactive map (you can "zoom to address;" the overall map is color-coded by zip codes).
