February 4, 2013: The Employees Community Fund of Boeing California has awarded a $17,000 grant to the 26-year-old Cancer Support Community-Redondo Beach (CSC-RB) to help subsidize CSC-RB's new Kids Community Programs for children ages 5-17 who, according to the Beach Reporter ...[reaches] youth who live with or closely know someone who has cancer...[the program offers] professionally facilitated programs that focus on creative activities: music, poems, stories, cartoons, games and, most recently, yoga.
The Kids Community program [wil provide] age-appropriate information about cancer and the treatment process...address cancer-related misconceptions, promote the discussion of what [the children] are feeling and experiencing, teach coping skills, and encourage family communication about the illness.
The ECF of Boeing is an employee-owned nonprofit that has assets from both the former Douglas Aircraft Welfare Foundation and the contributions of Boeing employees made through payroll deductions to support charitable organizations in regions where the employees live and work.
