January 3, 2014: Politico's Morning Education asks today if 2014 will be "The Year of the Toddler"?
The Committee for Education Funding’s Joel Packer predicts that pre-K expansion will be the only education bill considered on the floor of the Senate in 2014. And Allison Preiss, press secretary for Senate HELP Chairman Tom Harkin, said there will definitely be hearings — soon — on early education and the Strong Start for America’s Children Act.
--However Laura Bornfreund and Clare McCann at the New America Foundation don’t have high hopes for a bipartisan congressional proposal that would expand preschool access to 4-year-olds. The legislation has little chance for movement in Congress this year...
--Sara Watson, executive vice president of America’s Promise, ...expects at least five states — led by both Republicans and Democrats — to advance early childhood policies in 2014.
