i just read that jerry brown reinstated stage 3 funding,,,why isnt it available to us yet?
Posted by: teena collins | 01/20/2011 at 06:57 AM
Stage 3 funding --- to cover this fiscal year -- is included in Brown's PROPOSED budget. Right now, we're in a "funding gap" ... and that is what AB 1 is intended to solve. It has passed through the Assembly and goes to the Senate "any day now." The authorization for funds for January-February-March has to pass the Senate and go to the Governor for signing before funds are available to parents and providers. That may be as soon as 2 weeks, or 3 ... and there is still, the Dept of Education warns us, no guarantee that it will pass and be signed (although Brown has included restitution of Stage 3 funding in his proposed budget ... I know, it's a circular explanation, but it seems to be the only one).

I have faith in God that stage three will be restored. Stage three was designed to assist mothers and low income families to be productive citizens; if stage three is completely wiped out, these families will be forced to rely on the state for more than child care. We need to promote and help working low-income families,at all cost. The budget needs to be revamped to promote more people that is dependent on cash aid, food Eliminating stage three will only cause these families to lose their jobs, get on unemployment, food stamps and Medi-Cal. How would this help the state?
